GDA 2
Gas Detector Array 2 – Portable system for the detection of chemical hazardous gases
As a portable detector for first response the GDA is offering detection and identification results in seconds.
Due to its multiple sensor array it is able to provide sensitivity to chemical warfare agents as well as to a very broad range of toxic industrials. With this ability of having sensitivity for all probable hazardous compounds it is the appropriate detector for situations where no prior knowledge on chemicals is available. This GDA2 comprises a combination of various sensors: an Ion Mobility Spectrometer (IMS), a Photo Ionization Detector (PID), two semiconductor gas sensors (SC) and an electrochemical cell (EC). As a result, it does not only enhances the capability to detect a wider range of detectable compounds but it also improves the substance identification capability due to a combined evaluation of all sensors. In its basic way of operation the GDA is used as a general detector informing the operator every second about potential chemical risks. The user is being protected with the highest level of safety. A user defined library which may comprise chemical warfare agents as well as toxic industrial compounds like isocyanides or f.eg. Phosphin, determines the range of specifically identifiable compounds. Due to its open library system the GDA is easily adaptable to other different compounds. The auto ranging feature of the GDA is especially helpful in first response actions. The originally limited dynamic range of the detectors is expanded towards higher concentrations which may easily occur on-site. In these conditions the GDA is still able to acquire accurate information for the operator. In case of potential overload by exaggerated concentration of chemicals the detector rejects the sample for some moments so that continued operation reading is ensured.
The GDA is in use in several European and Asian countries. It has been used to securing many public events as well as counteraction on chemical threats after accidents in industries or in transportation systems.
